Two Information Builders Customers Recognized in 2018 Technology Solutions Awards

Information Builders customers, York Regional Police and Oklahoma Department of Human Services, were honored for Significant Achievement by Public Technology Institute (PTI) in the 2018 Technology Solutions Awards for Data and Performance Metrics. York Regional Police

With the implementation of Information Builders’ Law Enforcement Analytics (LEA) Solution, York Regional Police (YRP) is tapping the potentials of business intelligence and putting vital information at the fingertips of those in command who are keeping the Region of York’s citizens safe. This LEA framework creates an end-to-end BI solution, which complements its innovative and robust map-based visualization tools, and supports more than 2,200 police officers and civilian staff.

Information Builders’ LEA solution has been implemented in YRP’s Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC) and has had a significant impact on the situational awareness available to YRP’s officers. The staff working in the RTOC now have dashboards with automated alerts regarding minimum staffing levels for all operational units, such as, Frontline Patrol, Emergency Response, K-9 and Patrol Supervisors. This enables them to ensure their officers are in the right places at the right time. This data is also captured and analyzed throughout the year to monitor staffing levels for each of the respective Districts which can help them identify trends and staffing level issues. This enables York Regional Police to use data to make effective and ongoing staffing decisions throughout the year.

The solution also enables the RTOC to identify all officers who are working and available with specific operational skills such as search and rescue, ice water rescue, crowd management, as well as the proficiency of their ability to read, write, and speak a language other than English. Leveraging existing automatic vehicle location (AVL) technology combined with human resource information represented in real-time dashboards allow commanders in the RTOC to identify, in seconds, where the officers with the required skills are and their ability to assist – a task that previously would have taken up to an hour or more to accomplish and required queries of multiple systems and databases.

Supporting real-time crime analytics, the solution aids in identifying people of interest related to crimes, based on any variable of filters, compared to the old process that relied on extensive use of human resources and old technology. York Regional Police believes technology often challenges users to change their processes to make use of the product; however, YRP is challenging the technology to provide them with the information they need in a format they can make immediate use of.

Oklahoma Department of Human Services

The State of Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services and Department of Human Services created a predictive analytics system to help caseworkers within these programs to identify potential maltreatment of children while under foster care, as well as to improve child support enforcement collections by identifying noncustodial parents who are in arrears on their payments, and likely to start paying again. The department created predictive models that analyze data collected about the cases of hundreds of thousands of children, their biological parents, and their foster families.

This business intelligence environment utilizes over 300 different variables to identify statistically significant data points, and assigns percentages to these variables to help caseworkers determine the likelihood of those situations occurring in the future. This automated system examines data points about the children, their biological parents, and their foster families to determine risk thresholds, and then assigns a risk score to each child or family group. Armed with this daily knowledge, caseworkers can more strategically focus on children that merit specific oversight, action, or scrutiny.

The predictive modeling system, based on Information Builders’ RStat technology, automates time-consuming manual processes for our busy Child Welfare Services staff. It runs each night and generates a list of children ranked from highest risk to lowest risk. Supervisors will be able to use the data to recommend additional targeted services to the foster families. Another RStat model helps our Child Support workers isolate the attributes that lead to noncompliance of payments from noncustodial parents, freeing up hours of research time for our staff to focus more attention on their core work.

Obtaining a unified view of data assets poses significant challenges to organizations. The outstanding work to implement sophisticated BI and analytics that fuel data integration and data quality being done by York Regional Police and Oklahoma Department of Human Services is proof that a data-driven strategy can help achieve great things.
