Yesterday, Gartner released its 2020 Magic Quadrant Market Study for Analytics and BI Platforms. Gartner has been publishing this Magic Quadrant for nearly 20 years and Information Builders has been a prominent player in every report!

This year’s report includes 22 vendors from nearly 100 candidate vendors. Compared to last year, some vendors remained in the same position, while others moved down. However, several vendors’ dot position moved up, including Information Builders.

One of our unique strengths, which Gartner recognized as the first strength in the report, is our ability to deploy to external-facing analytical applications in large-scale deployments with thousands of users and large data volumes.

One of our unique strengths, which Gartner recognized as the first strength in the report, is our ability to deploy to external-facing analytical applications in large-scale deployments with thousands of users and large data volumes. Let’s explore this: we have customer deployments that have literally millions of users in their applications where our WebFOCUS platform is embedded. And, those applications have experienced a very large number of concurrent users, including tens of thousands of users.

What other vendors can say that? None, as far as I can see. No other vendor has this listed as a strength in the latest Gartner report. One point I’d like to make: The WebFOCUS Designer Caution on performance seems to contradict the scalability strength mentioned above.

We introduced the new WebFOCUS Designer Edition in October 2018. This component of our platform provides a modern state-of-the-art UI/UX for business users who need to create, publish, share, and collaborate on analytics content. Gartner gave us some kudos (ok, Strengths) for the redesigned (and scalable) UI of WebFOCUS Designer, including new reporting, dashboard creation, and overall User Experience. One of the non-kudos (Caution) is around Ease of Use. I’d argue some of these new user experience enhancements have just rolled out to our customers. You can give these features a try (see below).

One of Gartner’s Strategic Planning Assumptions is that over the next three years, 90 percent of the world’s largest companies will be converging analytics governance into broader data and analytics governance initiatives. This plays directly into one of our strengths: supporting a wide variety of complex data and data sources, including real-time streaming. Information Builders has data and analytics capabilities today.

As Gartner correctly points out, Information Builders offers a fully managed SaaS Information Builders Cloud offering for those wishing to start in (or move to) the cloud. We have seen incredible excitement and growth with Information Builders Cloud. You can even try it out yourself via our Free Trial!

Finally, I am very excited to be here at Information Builders and to continue working with the industry analysts. I welcome our newest leader and colleague, Carol McNerney, who is our new chief marketing officer. We are already working on several of Gartner’s other Cautions around Strategy. Stay tuned and feel free to reach out to us.
